Old World Third Street

This six block section of North Third Street in Milwaukee was so unique, it required a unique name to differentiate it from the surrounding area. As the main downtown hub for much of Milwaukee’s large German population, Old World Third Street was and is a unique stretch of cobblestone street surrounded by German heritage.

Today, Old World Third Street is a unique hybrid of Milwaukee’s past and present. It is a nightlife destination, drawing crowds to many dance clubs, as well as a tourist destination, with many attractions, shops and restaurants.

Heading up the list of great restaurants on Old World Third street would have to be Mader’s Restaurant, at 1041 N. Old World Third Street. Founded in 1902 and a survivor of Prohibition, Mader’s has stood the test of time. Experience fantastic German beer and food in this unique and historic restaurant.

Across the street at 1030 N. Old World Third Street Usinger's Famous Sausage. In a building with high visibility on Milwaukee’s riverfront, Usinger’s has been making varieties of bratwurst, salami, kishka, chorizo and more for nearly a century and a half. The Usinger’s Sausage Shop has all the latest varieties of sausage and deli meats Usinger's has to offer.

Continuing with our German sausage theme, The Milwaukee Brat House (1013 N. Old World Third Street) is a relatively new bar and restaurant that continues to celebrate Milwaukee’s German heritage. Featuring a great beer garden, live music, and excellent brats, the Milwaukee Brat House is a standout of any Milwaukee tour.

Rounding out our tour of the Old World Third Street area at 1001 N. 4th Street is the BMO Harris Bradley Center. Home to the Milwaukee Bucks, Marquette University men’s basketball team, and several other sports events and concerts throughout the year, the Bradley Center is a staple of Milwaukee entertainment. This exceptional venue has brought the biggest acts in music and entertainment to Downtown Milwaukee since 1988.
